Carabel Price

Carabel C. Price was born to the late Helen Irby Carr Bailey and Walter Carr on May 26, 1920 in Mobile, Alabama. She departed this life on June 27, 2015. She was an only child. Her grandmother Irby and mother spoiled her dearly and she loved them both.
At an early age, she accepted Christ at State Street A.M.E. Zion Church in Mobile, Alabama. Carabel was a graduate of Dunbar High School in Mobile, Alabama; and a graduate of Mobile County Training School, a private school. She lived in St. Louis, Missouri for a short time with her dad’s family and attended college. She later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio with her mother and attended college at University of Cincinnati. While working in the theater at night at U.C., she completed three years of college. She also worked for Ezzard Charles (the boxer) as a secretary, elevator operator at Gidding-Jennings and Lerner’s.
She was married to the late Aaron Todd for 40 years. Carabel was the first black woman supervisor at RCA and left there to work at Cincinnati Bell from where she retired after 30 years of service.
She was a member of Union Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was a member of Alpha Omega Club for 50 years, member of the Centennial Club for 10 years and Chairman of Women’s Day where her picture still hangs on the wall at Union Baptist. She was also a member of the Neighborhood Club in Madison- ville on Stewart Road, member of The Red Hatter’s organization, Bridge Club, Secretary of UAW where she met her second hus- band “Bill” Price. She united in marriage to Bill, in June 1990, until his death in November 1998. She later moved her member- ship, in 2011, to Gaines United Methodist Church where her mother had been a member. She dearly loved her church and her church family. Carabel loved to travel with her husbands, friends, family, and eat out until her failing health. She was also a member of Guys and Dolls Club. She loved to dress and was always on QVC, HSN and ordered from various magazines. Her favorite saying was “Shut-up”.
Carabel leaves to mourn: her loving niece and nephew, Wanda and Gary Brown of Versailles, KY; her closest and best friends, Ann Todd, Margaret Stanley, Louise Stallworth, Joyce Collier, Pat Sparks and Mildred Oglesby; her godchild, Tanya (Jeffrey) Richardson (which was Nini to her); her closest cousins, Bernice Ewing, Carolyn (Butch) Taylor of Winchester, OH, Hazel Coley and Diane Caster of Mobile, AL and Pat McCrea of Palm Springs, CA; half brothers, Roger (Dee) Brown; half sister, Karen Brown of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Darnella Johnson of San Diego, CA; Rev. and Mrs. Curnell Graham; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many adopted family and friends who will greatly miss her.
