Dan Brewster was born on March 23, 1928 in Kewanee (Laurel County), Mississippi. Dan was the second son of the late Charlie and Alice (White) Brewster. Dan answered the call home and peacefully made his transition into eternity on November 22, 2014 at 6:55 a.m. surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Willie Brewster.
Although Dan’s formal education was limited, he was a man full of wisdom and knowledge; well read. He amazed the most educated with his wisdom and freely admitted he only went to the eighth grade.
He accepted Christ at an early age at the Greenhill Baptist Church in Toomsuba, Missis- sippi and he never swayed from Christ for the remainder of his life.
He enlisted in the United States Army in September of 1950 and served in the Korean War; where he took his one and only cruise in life to England and declared he’d never get on a boat again! He was honorably discharged in October of 1956 from the Army Reserves.
Dan moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1953 where he joined the Jerriel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Albert Lee Goodwin. He served faithfully in several capacities through- out the church, starting with the Usher Board, Inspirational Choir, a founding member of the Male Chorus, Sunday School, where he served as a devoted teacher and was Superintendent for 14 years. But his passion was the Deacon Board, where he was ordained on December 17, 1958. He became Chairman in 1979 and served faithfully in that capacity for 23 years. He was honored with the appointment of Deacon Emeritus on June 20, 2010 and he continued to serve faithfully. There was no job too small or large that he would not embark on if needed. If you needed a man, Dan was ―The Man‖!!!!
While on a blind double date with another woman, he met his queen and love of his life, Annie Ruth Harris. He united in holy matrimony to Annie on September 1, 1956. Wherever you saw Dan, Annie was not far behind. They compli- mented and completed each other. To their union, their two angels, Virginia Faye and Veneeta Kaye were born. They were the joy of his life as he was theirs! His greatest passion was FAMILY! He believed that family was the foundation. He was a father, grandfather, mentor and big hugger and hand shaker to everyone he met. No one was a stranger to him!
The legacy he leaves behind: his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Annie Ruth Brewster; his two devoted daughters, Virginia F. Brewster of Cincinnati, Ohio and Veneeta (Rev. Dr. Kenneth) Phelps and two loving grandchildren, Morgan Breanna and David Kenneth Phelps of Olympia Fields, Illinois; one sister, Annie Mae Scott; two brothers, Carlvester (Betty) and Charlie (Mary) Brewster, all of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a plethora of friends.
Much more could be said about Dan, but the main thing is he was a man who loved the Lord with all of his heart, soul and mind.
