Eugene Crawford

Eugene Crawford was born January 13, 1929 in Tuskegee, Alabama. He was the oldest of eight children born to the union of John and Matilda Crawford.
He accepted Christ at an early age at the Spring Hills Baptist Church in Tuskegee, Alabama. After graduating from Macon County High School in Tuskegee, he embarked on a new path of life which directed him to Chicago, Illinois. Eugene knew the importance of education so later in his manhood, he enrolled in college and received his Bachelor’s degree with a major in math. He continued college while teaching in the Chicago School System and earned his Master’s degree in Education from the University of Chicago. With a previous career in amateur boxing, those skills were helpful in teaching young men to stay on the right path in life.
Eugene retired as an assistant principal and moved to Cincinnati to spend more time with his mother in her later years. He lived with her and became her caregiver until she needed more extensive care. He will always be remembered for his love and care for others, and how can you not forget, the lively colored red and pink suits he wore.
Eugene was preceded in death by his father, John Craw- ford; mother, Matilda Wright; sisters, Johnnie Mae Craw- ford, Martha Green; and brother, Richard Crawford. He is survived by: sisters, Josie Free (Clarence) of Cincinnati, OH, Dorothy Bailey (Joseph) of Atlanta, GA and E. Jean West (Richard) of Cincinnati, OH; and one sole brother, Robert Crawford (Dianna) of Cincinnati, OH. He leaves a devoted niece, Tyrice Ellis (Rick) of Chicago, IL; and a number of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
