Inez Litmon Shorter was born October 8, 1927 in Cincinnati, Ohio and was the only child of Sallie B. Shorter and Ernest Litmon. She attended 12th District Elementary School and graduated from Old Woodward High School in 1945. She was also a member of St. John’s AME Church throughout her childhood and early adulthood.
After graduation, Inez attended Indiana University before her union to James H. Bolden, Sr. from which they welcomed two children: Jymi and Denise. Always a strong and independent person, she soon became a single parent raising her children with the support and love of family. She remained a loving, confident single parent until her death. Her persistence to provide for her children led to her service in several vocations including newspaper journalist to retail positions to her long-term service as a federal employee. Her skill sets promoted her from data entry to an administrative position with the Department of Internal Revenue. Inez retired from federal service while employed with the Department of Health & Human Services, where she had continued to use her human relations skills to serve others.
Inez was an avid reader and had a depth of interests, which always included a “work-to-serve” ethic. She served her communities as an Election Official. Her
membership in the IBPOE strongly reflected this com-mitment. Inez joined IBPOE of W in the late 70’s and became a daughter of IDOMI Temple #1287 and in 1980 transferred her membership to Meadowlark Temple in Covington, KY (which is currently Meadowlark Etta Wah Temple #7) where she was a faithful member until her health began to fail. During her years as a daughter at Meadowlark, she served as Temple Financial Secretary. She also belonged to The Ohio State Assoc. where she was the personal secretary for the Ohio State President Almeade Phillips. Inez also belonged to the Past Daughter Rulers Council, held the office of Trustee for the Grand Lodge and was a Past Grand Daughter Ruler. In March 2002, she was received into full mem-bership of the Allen Temple AME Church, where she continued to serve. Inez was a dedicated volunteer receptionist assisting in various aspects of supportive responsibilities, as well as a member of the Women’s Ministries.
Inez leaves to cherish her memory, a loving family: son and daughter, Jymi Bolden (Lin) and Denise Lynch (Robert); Robert ‘Sonny’ Smith (Special Friend); grandchildren, William Evans (Lisa), Nichelle M. Bolden, Amber Reeves (Rachi), Holly Spence (Vinnie), Erin Lynch-Alexander (Vincent), Suzanne Lynch, Jennifer Lynch and Cheryl Johnson-Nored (godchild); 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family, friends and loved ones.
