Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Psalm 23:2 & 4 Betty Lorraine Stegall was born on July 5, 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Mary Elizabeth Thomas and Crawford McGerald. Mother Stegall received her high school diploma from Woodward High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and later attended the St. Francis School of Nursing and obtained her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) certification in 1957. She worked as a nurse for Shriner’s Burns Institute for 25 years. Mother Stegall was joined in holy matrimony to Garland Stegall in 1956, and five children were born to this union. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Garland Stegall in 1987. Mother Stegall accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 17 at Holy Trinity COGIC in Cincinnati, OH. Mother Stegall was the first choir director of the Southern Ohio District. Under her directorship of the choir, the choir was known for its two-step choir march and custom-made pink gowns. She was a well-known vocalist and was requested frequently to sing at various church services. Mother Stegall attended the Holy Convocation in Memphis, TN for 38 years. Mother Stegall was well known for her diligent service in the church by serving dinners and fundraising efforts of selling her famous peach cobblers. She loved Pastor Earl D. Finney and her church, Higher Ground Ministries House of Favor, where she served as church mother until God called her home. Mother Stegall transitioned this life on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at approximately 6:58 p.m. She leaves to mourn one brother, Ronald M. Hector. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Marsha Stegall Marcus (Charles), Garland W. Stegall, Jr., Paula Edwards (Derek), Robert Cornell Stegall (Latrice), and Milton Stegall (Darlene). She leaves ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mother Stegall had a way with words and a unique way of telling others how she felt and did it in love. She was supportive to others and a good listener. She loved to shop and was a classy dresser. Her clothes were stored in four closets! Mother Stegall loved shoes and hats so much that she had over 150 pairs of shoes and over 200 hats. She had a customized cabinet built in her home to store her many hats! Her motto was “A woman wasn’t fully dressed unless she had on a hat.” Her favorite saying was “I’m living a good life!” “For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit….” Colossians 2:5
