Dwayne Campbell

Dwayne Campbell was born on August 29, 1951 in Detroit, MI to the late Millard and Jeanette Campbell. He was the third child born to this union. He was educated and graduated from the Detroit Public School System.
Dwayne joined the US Army in May,1970 and was later honorably discharged. While in the military he worked in communications and used those skills all of his life to navigate around any area that he lived in and visited. At one point he was also an entrepreneur and organized an importing and exporting business providing/selling goods from various parts of the world (it was called the Dwayne Campbell Company). He joined the Catholic Church (St. Bonaventure on E. Mt. Elliott in the city of Detroit) upon returning from his military service. While serving at the church he also served in the community providing services to those that were less fortunate in the neighborhood. He also started his own band and would have rehearsal sessions at the church where they allowed him to use one of their empty conference rooms.
Dwayne loved all types of music from classical to jazz to country. In his younger years he composed and wrote music some of which was copyrighted in Washington, DC. He was a self-taught musician and played several instruments including the guitar, saxophone, piano and the violin. He was very talented and shared his skills/knowledge and was always willing to teach others.
Dwayne was a quiet person and he loved to be with his family, he liked being outside and enjoyed nature. He liked to travel and was independent and would find his way. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee and the comradery of his “Veteran Brothers” at the VA Hospital and at The Camelot Group Home in Cincinnati, Ohio “his other family.” He and his fellow veteran brothers would spend many hours with each other conversating and taking care of each other. He never complained about his health issues and departed this life quietly on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020.
He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory one brother Otto Campbell (LeRey) of Cincinnati; the remainder of his immediate family preceded him in death, Millard, Cedric, Jeffrey and Sister Phyllis. Nieces: Donna Pernell (Terrance) of Detroit, Great Niece: Tiara Campbell; Nieces: Lanetta Johnson of Detroit; Kenya Clinton and Shontae Nimrod (James) Clinton Twp, Teresa Callahan (Larry) Farmington Hills, MI; Zawadi Campbell, Detroit, MI; Nephews: Martez Gussman (Tasha) Southfield; Paul Campbell of Arkansas; Michael Campbell, Jr. (preceded in death); three aunts Virgie Saffold (Mississippi), Allison Montgomery (Chicago); Marjorie Barnes (Chicago); Sister-in-Law; Judy Campbell of Detroit. Also a host of cousins, great nieces & nephews, relatives, family and friends who will miss him dearly.
